Third SUV, all-electric, for C-segment
There is more clarity about the Toyota bZ Compact SUV. That is the smaller version of the bZ4X, Toyota’s first all-electric SUV that is almost in the showroom. Toyota deploys the bZ Compact SUV as its third weapon in the growing C-SUV segment. That means the Corolla Cross and the C-HR get an all-electric brother in that class.
The specifications of the bZ Compact SUV have not yet been released, but it is clear where we should place the electric SUV. The car shares technology with the bZ4X and everything is already known about it. Like the C-HR Prologue, the precursor to the second-generation Toyota C-HR, the bZ4X was designed at the ED² design studio in Nice, southern France, and you can see it as the electric brother of the Corolla Cross and the C- HR. They are on the same platform, so not intended for electric models.
At the Kenshiki forum in Brussels, Toyota revealed a lot of news last week. The bZ Compact SUV had come out before, but we now know that the car is slightly larger than the C-HR Prologue. That harbinger of the new C-HR was unveiled at the event and at 4.37, the SUV that appears as a hybrid and plug-in hybrid is 16 centimeters shorter than the all-electric bZ Compact SUV.
Six electric Toyotas in 2026
Just like the bZ4X, the bZ Compact SUV is part of the plan to offer six fully electric Toyotas in Europe by 2026.
Whether this will be the second electric model in the range, Toyota did not want to confirm yet, but given the importance of the C-segment in Europe, you can assume that it will be. 32 percent of all cars sold in Europe are C-segment models. And of that C-segment, 61 percent is an SUV. When the bZ Compact SUV comes on the market, Toyota will have a third model in that popular class in addition to the Corolla Cross and the C-HR.
It is not yet known when the bZ Compact SUV will go into production. On the Kenshiki forum it was noticed that the car is already closer to the production stage than the C-HR Prologue. The doors of the concept car were already allowed to open, but not yet. In the video we made, you can clearly see that the bZ Compact SUV is already more ready for production.
