Toyota Corolla (1991) – Enthusiast Wanted

The first thing that stands out about this Toyota Corolla is that it still looks amazingly fresh. The car will be 32 years old in 2023 and has already had a good two tons behind it, but it looks fresh both outside and inside. No damage, no wear and – it seems – no rust. The provider of the car has uploaded neat photos of the sides of the Corolla and the wheel arch edges still look perfectly fine. Although that does not have to say anything about the underside of the car.

Nevertheless, we expect that it is also in good condition, given that the same provider asks a small €3,800 for the car. For that money you would almost assume that everything is in perfect order. So check if that is the case if you go to see the car. Still: the Corolla has almost 229,000 kilometers of experience and was therefore certainly not standing still. Although that is more good than bad news for a car of this age. Some parts will have been worn and replaced by now, so you will probably not find too many (wear) parts on the car that still need to be replaced due to age.

According to the advertisement, the car belonged to the son’s father in the early years who drove it for years afterwards. In 2008, the Corolla left its first litter and was then owned by its third driver until recently. If you become the fourth, you will get a – especially for its time – quite sleekly designed Japanese. The optically all-round glass section and the light bar on the back are nice and characteristic of the period from which the car dates.

In addition, it is still in its original condition, with its ex-factory wheels and extra lights in the front. Those things were part of the Grand Luxe version, of which this Corolla is one. That means that you have – really where – a tachometer. What else the Corolla has on board is up to the next owner to find out. At first glance, its strikingly sleek dashboard seems to offer little space for other luxury items.

But what could be more luxurious than a good amount of space, good all-round visibility and the knowledge that your car (occasionally knock on the door) will not just stop? The not too obese Corolla offers enough space for four people and luggage and has the most indestructible Toyota technology under the hood. The 1.6-liter with injection produces a healthy 105 hp, with which it does not have to work hard too quickly to get the Toyota, which weighs just over 1,000 kg, in motion. And it may lack almost all safety features; with a limited overview, an accident is in a very small corner. All in all, it is almost inevitable that the next owner will have a lot of fun with this car. But who is that?
