Improved technology, sharpened exterior

Toyota GR86 (camouflaged)
On December 2, the Toyota GR86, a technical development of the GT86 sports coupé, will make its debut. The technology is based on the expertise of the Toyota Gazoo Racing team.
The successor to the Toyota GT86 is coming! The further developed sports coupé is given the name GR86, referring to the Toyota Gazoo Racing team that contributed to the technical innovations. The exterior design has also been updated, with improved aerodynamics and styling cues from Toyota’s other sporty models, the GR Supra and GR Yaris. New sports seats can be found in the cabin. The backs of the rear seats can be folded down, so that in the luggage compartment, for example, four wheels can be taken to the destination for which the GR86 was made: the race track.
Technical innovations
The 2.4 liter boxer engine has grown from 1,998 to 2,387 cm3 contents. With this you can now use 234 horsepower, good for a top speed of 226 km/h and a 0-100 km/h sprint of 6.3 seconds. The full 250 Nm of torque is already available at 3,700 rpm. By adjusting the fuel injection, the GR86 responds faster to the accelerator pedal than the GT. Toyota has also revised the six-speed manual and automatic transmission.

Furthermore, the brand has used lighter, but stronger materials. Not only is the body now 50 percent stiffer, the center of gravity is lower and the weight distribution of 53:47 is almost ideal. As a driver, you also experience it from a 5 mm lower seating position. And don’t forget the effect of the revised exhaust, which roars more powerfully than ever.
Handling has become more predictable, with optimized suspension and damping. To cope with the increased torque, Toyota has strengthened the rear suspension. The new electronic power steering is integrated into the steering column, which saves weight and space. Every GR86 gets ventilated brake discs and control systems such as traction control, Vehicle Stability Control and an emergency braking system.
Disclosure and market launch
The Toyota GR86 shown here is still camouflaged; the production version will be unveiled on December 2. The sports coupe will be launched in the spring of 2022 and the prices will be announced.
