Gazoo Racing’s second hydrogen project
Toyota is working on a Corolla Cross with an internal combustion engine that runs on hydrogen. Earlier, the brand unveiled the GR Yaris that runs on hydrogen. Toyota sees combustion engines running on hydrogen as one of the solutions to tackle carbon dioxide emissions, specifically for regions where electricity for EVs is not available on every street corner.
Like the Toyota GR Yaris that runs on hydrogen, the Corolla Cross H2 Gazoo Racing also has a leading role. As a rally car, the GR Yaris even took part in the Ypres Rally last autumn with none other than Akio Toyoda behind the wheel. Toyota mainly sees opportunities in motorsport for cars with a combustion engine that run on hydrogen.
The Corolla Cross H2 is 40 percent production ready. Whether development will continue until the model is 100 percent fit for production is too early to say now, said Matt Harrison, President and CEO of Toyota Motor Europe.
Last week, Toyota released information about the HiLux Hydrogen. Just like the Mirai, it uses a fuel cell.
