Transfer photos and videos from an iPhone to a Windows computer. There is a backup and you also have all the images on your computer.
Backup photos
You can easily take photos and videos with a smartphone. Especially since the device is always at hand. This quickly creates a wealth of visual material that you do not want to lose. It is recommended that you backup photos and videos stored on iPhone. If something happens to the device, you will not lose the photos. An additional advantage is that the photos are also available on the computer for other uses, such as making a photo book. Learn how to transfer photos from iPhone to Windows computer in this article.
On computer or in iCloud
In this article, we will show you two ways to transfer photos to the computer. The photos are transferred directly from the iPhone to the computer. However, Apple itself promotes iCloud, the company’s online storage and syncing service. Saves the files online. You can then view and download it via a website. We will not go into this further in this article. If you do want to use iCloud, read the article ‘Exchange files between devices with iCloud’.
Transfer all photos
Via the standard function ‘Import images and videos’ on a Windows computer it is possible to transfer photos. This is a good method to transfer all photos in iPhone to computer at once. It is also useful that the computer recognizes whether the photos are already on the computer. If new photos have been taken with iPhone since the last time you imported photos, the computer will import only these new photos.
- Connect the iPhone to the PC with the supplied white USB cable. This is the cable that charges the phone, without the plug.
- Unlock the iPhone if you haven’t already. The smartphone will ask if you want to give the device access to the photos and videos. Tap on Allow or trust.
- On the computer, open File Explorer via the yellow folder icon in the Taskbar.
- Click in the left menu on This PC.
- Right click on Apple iPhone or the name you gave the iPhone.
- click on Import images and videos.
The computer will now search for available photos and videos.
Import settings
Then decide where the photos and videos will be stored:
- click on More options.
- Choose the storage location for the photos behind ‘Import pictures to’.
- The photos are placed in the ‘Pictures’ folder by default. Change this if necessary by tapping To leaf through. Browse to the folder where you want to save the photos and click OK.
• Photos and videos can be kept in the same place. But you can also store them elsewhere. Change the location of videos? Then click behind ‘Import videos into’ To leaf through, browse to the desired folder and click OK. - Under ‘Other options’ is the option Delete files after importing from the device. If you check it, the photos will be removed from the iPhone. We recommend not checking the option.
- click on OK.
- click on Import all new items now.
- click on Enter a name. Give the folder where the photos will end up a title, for example ‘Photos from iPhone’.
- click on Import.
All the new footage is put on the computer.
