AirMore is a free service that allows you to transfer your iPhone photos to your Windows PC without the need for cables. You can read exactly how that works in this article.
You have a Windows PC and want to transfer photos and videos from your iPhone or iPad without using iCloud or iTunes as a waypoint. And let’s face it, cramming a USB cable into both devices every time is outdated. With the free AirMore app you can make a wireless connection between the computer and the mobile device.
AirMore is an app that you can use on both a android- can install as an iOS device. Nevertheless, the application was mainly created to bridge the gap between the iPhone and the Windows computer.
If desired, you can have iOS and macOS communicate via AirMore, but we do not see the added value of that. The connection between an iDevice and an Apple computer already works fine thanks to the built-in WiFi synchronization and the macOS solution AirDrop.
Find AirMore in the App Store and install the app on your iPhone. Are you in doubt between AirMore and AirMore+? They are completely different apps. The plus does not indicate a premium version or anything. Choose the former, as AirMore+ is designed to wirelessly manage files on Wi-Fi mobile drives.
Connect via QR code
You don’t need to install anything on the computer, just make sure that the PC and the mobile are connected to the same WiFi network. The interaction between PC and mobile is based on the interplay between the mobile app and the web-based app. If the app is on your phone, go to desktop in your desktop browser http://web.airmore.com to open AirMore Web. This web app supports Safari, Chrome and Firefox browsers.
There are two ways to connect on the homepage: via a QR code or via Radar. The second way would track devices nearby on which the app is active. This method did not work for us. So choose the QR code and scan the blocks with the app.
On the iPhone or iPad
The connection is established immediately. There is no hassle with logins or passwords. As icing on the cake, there is not even a file size limit. On your iPhone, the text Connected to PC appears and also the IP address of the connected computer.
Here you will also see a large blue button to disconnect. And at the bottom you will recognize a set of navigation buttons to quickly go to the images, music and videos. The last button in the row, Lake, takes you to other products from developer Apowersoft Limited.
An annoying downside is that the connection is lost every time your phone goes into standby. AirMore is a great solution to quickly transfer some photos to the PC, for example, but if you want to make a longer connection, we recommend the function Automatic lock to turn off temporarily.
Open the Settings and tap Display and brightness, from there you go to Automatic lock. By default this is set to 1 minute. Here you can change the setting Never to prevent your iPhone or iPad from going to standby by itself. When you’re done, don’t forget Automatic lock to reactivate.
On the PC
In the browser screen on your PC, you can read much more information and notice how good the connection is between both devices. You see the name of the device, the type, how much energy is left in the battery. You can read the screen resolution and how many images and videos are on the device. At the same time, AirMore reveals how much storage space has been taken up in the meantime and how much space is still available.
To the left of this information you will recognize the screen content of the mobile device. This content is not automatically refreshed. When you hover the mouse pointer over this image, a button will appear to refresh the content. That preview also works, for example, when you navigate to your photos.
This solution is especially useful for wirelessly transferring images to your PC. In the browser window, click the button Pictures, so you can see all the photos that are in the iPhone’s library. The newest photos are at the top. There is also a button Sort by month, with which you no longer group the photos by day, but by month.
When you click on a thumbnail, three icons appear. The trash can is used to delete the photo, in the middle is the button to download the image file to the hard disk and on the far left is an eye to enlarge the photo.
Transfer photos and videos
Double-clicking on a thumbnail will bring you to the Photo Viewer. We have noticed that jpg files appear very sharp, while heic images in AirMore Web appear blurry. This preview in the web version is streamed from the wireless connection, so the images are not on the PC.
In AirMore’s photo viewer you can scroll forwards and backwards, and it is possible to rotate the images. At the bottom you see a switch Template. That’s a bit of a misleading translation, as it involves a button that toggles the photo band at the bottom on and off. Thanks to that band, you can browse the photo library in the Photo Viewer.
You return to the AirMore homepage via the button with the house. Here you open the library of videos. You can view, download and delete the video files here, both on the mobile and in the web app.
In the middle of each thumbnail you will see a play button. When you click on that, the movie will play over the other thumbnails.
It is even possible to view the videos picture-in-picture. They will then play in the foreground, while you can do other things in the browser. Even if you want to delete a photo or video with AirMore Web, your smartphone will still ask if you really want to delete these files.
Are you ready, choose Disconnect. After all, your iPhone or iPad does not have to be constantly connected to your PC.
In case you have beautiful photos and want print them out to hang on your walls, you can try the service of Prints4sure. Your selected picture will be printed on canvas, which will be stretched over a wooden frame. This is a good and cheap way to decorate the walls with photo tiles.
