In case you forgot, Triumph partnered with Williams Advanced Engineering, Integral Powertrain Ltd and WMG, the University of Warwick to develop TE-1, Triumph’s first electric-powered motorcycle, funded by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles through Innovate UK.

After announcing earlier that the development of the prototype was going according to plan and that the final prototype would be presented in July, Triumph has now revealed the specifications of TE-1.

Triumph speaks of groundbreaking test results that have exceeded all expectations. Starting with the range, which by 100 miles (160 km) according to Triumph, exceeds the real-world range of electric motorcycles currently available.

During the online presentation, Triumph emphasizes that we should not look at the range claimed by the competition, but what the actual range of those engines is. Unfortunately for Triumph, our experience with the Zero SR/S and SR/F as well as recently the Energica Experia is that you can easily get a lot further than those 160 kilometers with them.

What is impressive is the speed at which the battery is charged, Triumph claims a charging capacity of 50 kW, which means that the charging time is 0-80% of the 18.6 kWh battery in just 20 minutes. That is double the speed of Energica, which is also charged DC fast charge.

Because it is only a prototype, Triumph TE-1 did not provide AC charging, in order to save weight. The production models that will result from TE-1 will of course be equipped with an AC charger, in order to be able to charge the motor at home at the socket.

Then the performance. The electric motor has a top power of 177 hp, which is almost equal to the power of the Speed ​​Triple 1200 RS, but the torque of only 109 Nm is less impressive. The Zero SR/S and SR/F have 190 Nm of torque, with the Energica Ego it is even 215 Nm.

That does not alter the fact that the acceleration figures can be called neat to say the least. According to Triumph, the TE-1 does 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds and 0-100 mph in 6.2 seconds, which is indeed on the level of a sporty one-litre bike.

In addition to an impressive loading time, the specified weight is also impressive. Triumph claims a weight of 220 kilos, which is equal to the weight of the Zero SR/F, but it does not have a DC fast charge charging option. At Energica, the weight is 260 kilos.

During the presentation, Triumph emphasizes that the TE-1 project should be seen as a development project for a platform electric motors, and not as a prototype for a specific model. The technical specifications of the production models that will result from TE-1 may therefore differ.
