Your iPhone is of course on most of the time, but sometimes it is useful to turn it off for a while. How do you do that?
This is how you turn off your iPhone
You can turn off your iPhone in several ways. How you do this depends on the model you are using. In this article we explain step-by-step how to turn off your iPhone.
iPhone without home button
The iPhone X and newer no longer have a home button – with the exception of the iPhone SE. The home button has been replaced by Face ID. iPhones with Face ID have a larger side button than older iPhones. Where previously this only served to turn your iPhone on and off, it is now also the way to call up Siri. Disabling has therefore become a bit more cumbersome.
To turn off iPhones without a home button:
1. Press and hold the side button in combination with one of the volume buttons for a few seconds;
2. A screen with three sliders will appear: ‘turn off’, ‘Medical ID’ and ‘SOS emergency’;
3. Slide the power off button to the right and wait for the screen to go black.
Your iPhone is now turned off. You can also turn off your iPhone via the Settings app. This works as follows:
1. Go to ‘settings’;
2. Tap ‘General’;
3. Scroll down and tap Shut Down.
iPhone with home button
Older iPhones, such as the iPhone 7, still have a home button that summons Siri. This means you only have to hold the side button for a few seconds to turn the device on and off.
