Bad news for Apple, because according to rumors the company has finally stopped a project after more than ten years. We will never see this product!
Apple stops project
According to rumors, Apple has been working on its own car for years, the Apple Car. Apple’s original plan was to make the car fully autonomous. In that case, the vehicle wouldn’t even have a steering wheel or pedals. That plan was quickly adjusted: the Apple Car would only be self-driving on the highways. Even that is too much to ask, as Apple has reportedly now permanently halted the project.

According to insiders, Project Titan executive Jeff Williams told about 2,000 employees yesterday that development of the Apple Car is being halted. That announcement came as a surprise, especially since Apple has been working on the project for more than ten years. The company has now decided to pull the plug on the Apple Car, which means we will probably never see an electric car from Apple.
Delay after delay with the Apple Car
In January it became clear that the Apple Car had been delayed again, making the car even less advanced than originally planned. At the time, insiders already indicated that this was one of the last chances the Apple Car would get. That is not surprising, because the project suffered delay after delay at Apple. In 2022, the company therefore decided to temporarily disband the Apple Car team.
Ultimately, a new team was formed with which Apple wanted to meet the 2025 deadline for the Apple Car. Last month it was leaked that the company was encountering problems again, causing Apple to postpone the project until 2028. That now also appears to be in vain, because Apple is discontinuing the Apple Car. Fortunately, this does not mean that the two thousand employees who worked on the project will all be fired.
Employees will work on AI
Instead, employees will work on developing AI at Apple. The company is reportedly planning to make a big catch-up in the field of artificial intelligence this year. As a result, we see many new AI features in iOS 18. That will be a huge update, so Apple has decided to transfer a large part of Project Titan’s employees to the team that deals with AI.

Apple’s discontinuation of the project therefore means both good and bad news. It is of course a shame that we will probably never see an Apple Car, but this means that major steps will be taken faster in the development of iOS 18.
