Unfortunately: Apple removes two apps from tvOS (you need to know this)

Apple will soon remove two apps from tvOS, meaning you will have to view and buy films and series in a different way. You need to know this!

Apple removes apps from tvOS

Apple last week released a series of new test versions for various operating systems, including tvOS. tvOS 17.2 will soon be released for the Apple TV, which will mainly change the TV app. As a result, Apple is removing two apps from tvOS, as the iTunes Movies app and iTunes TV Show app will disappear from the operating system.

And that’s not all, because you will soon no longer have the option to buy films and series in the iTunes Store on your iPhone and iPad. Instead, Apple will soon bundle all these functions into the Apple TV app. This will then become the place to watch all your films or series. Unfortunately, the app is still unclear, but that will change with an update. The Apple TV app will then have a completely new layout.

New design for Apple TV app

In the Apple TV app you will now find an overview of all the films and series that you can watch. The advantage of this is that you also see the titles on Disney Plus and HBO Max, for example, so you can immediately see where you can watch something. Yet this overview is often confusing, because it seems as if you can watch all films or series for free. This is not the case, because you do need a subscription to the streaming services.

The updated version of the Apple TV app comes with a new layout that makes the app much clearer. This way you can see what you can watch per streaming service. You no longer have to go to separate apps in tvOS or iOS to stream and buy a film or series, but you can find everything in one application. Unfortunately, that means the end of the iTunes Movies and iTunes TV Show apps in tvOS.

This is when tvOS 17.2 comes

With tvOS 17.2, Apple is mainly overhauling the TV app. We probably won’t have to wait much longer for the update, because tvOS 17.2 will be released this month. The update is expected to be released at the same time as iOS 17.2. This means that you will most likely be able to update to tvOS 17.2 this week, as the iOS update will be available on Tuesday, December 12 expected.
