Unfortunately: CarPlay Ultra does not come to these car brands

CarPlay Ultra can be used in the first cars, but not all cars are expanded with the update. These car brands do not get CarPlay Ultra.

CarPlay Ultra

CarPlay Ultra is available in the first cars! The new generation of the operating system is much more advanced and can take over almost all screens in your car. Where the current version of CarPlay is still limited to the display in the middle of the car, CarPlay Ultra also takes over the screen behind the wheel. What this looks like differs per car, because car brands can design the design of CarPlay Ultra yourself.

The new version of the operating system is much better integrated in the car, giving CarPlay access to more functions. It is finally possible to operate the radio, air conditioning and heating via CarPlay. In addition, the operating system is expanded with widgets and you can see important data from the car in CarPlay. Unfortunately, that is not the case with all cars, because not all car brands offer support for CarPlay Ultra.

These car brands refuse

CarPlay Ultra is now available in new cars from Aston Martin in the United States and Canada. Later this year the update comes to more cars, but not all car brands get CarPlay Ultra. A number of manufacturers have already indicated that not to support the new generation of CarPlay. Curious which those are? These car brands do not receive an update to CarPlay Ultra:

  • BMW
  • Buick
  • Byd
  • Cadillac
  • Chevrolet
  • Chrysler
  • Dodge
  • Fiat
  • GMC
  • Jeep
  • Lexus
  • Mazda
  • Mercedes-Benz
  • RAM
  • Rivian
  • Subaru
  • Suzuki
  • Tesla
  • Toyota
  • Volkswagen

Do you have a car from one of these brands? In that case you will not get access to CarPlay Ultra. A number of brands prefer to focus on their own software instead of CarPlay. This mainly has disadvantages for users, because software from car brands is usually supported less than CarPlay. This way you have to deal faster with outdated software in the car. In addition, car manufacturers often collect data with the operating system, which is much more difficult or not at all via CarPlay.

Release of CarPlay Ultra

CarPlay Ultra can now be used in the first cars in the United States and Canada. It is not yet known when CarPlay Ultra will be rolled out in the Netherlands and Belgium. According to Apple, the update will come to more cars later this year through a software update. It is therefore expected that you can still update to CarPlay Ultra in 2025, provided that the car has support for the new generation of the operating system.

Apple has not yet indicated which cars CarPlay Ultra is coming. The company will probably not do that either, because it is up to car brands to determine which cars are being expanded with CarPlay Ultra. Possibly only the latest cars get the update, because they have an advanced infotainment system. Read here which car manufacturers do support CarPlay Ultra!
