‘Unfortunately, the iPad mini 7 won’t get a screen with ProMotion again’

The iPad mini is an interesting tablet for people who don’t like to carry around a large device. Unfortunately, it seems that the iPad mini 7 will not get a ProMotion screen yet.

Next iPad mini (still) has a 60Hz screen

Apple is working on a new iPad mini. Not much is known about the tablet yet, but according to Ross Young we can already put one wanted feature out of our mind: ProMotion. The iPad Pro was the first to have a ProMotion screen in 2017, and the MacBook Pro and iPhone 13 Pro have also had the technology since then.

ProMotion is Apple’s marketing term for a 120Hz refresh rate. The technology ensures that images look twice as smooth as on the regular 60Hz screens, which we know from Apple’s ‘less premium’ devices – including the iPad mini. We were hoping that the manufacturer would bring the ProMotion display to its mini-tablet this year, but we’re probably fishing wrong again.

The iPad mini has an LCD screen that is not compatible with high refresh rates. So it is simply impossible to release an iPad mini (in its current form) with a ProMotion screen. Apple has to use a completely different, much more expensive screen technology for this – such as OLED, mini-LED or a more expensive LCD screen.

The recently launched iPad Air 2022 also doesn’t have a ProMotion screen yet, so that says enough. The iPad Air and iPad mini are almost the same tablets, except for the size of the screen. We can (almost certainly) write an iPad mini 7 with a ProMotion screen.

More about the small Apple tablet

The iPad mini is (as the name suggests) Apple’s smallest tablet. The manufacturer announced the first model in 2012 and we have now reached the sixth generation. This most recent version has been given a completely new design. It therefore resembles a small version of the iPad Air.

The iPad mini has an 8.3-inch screen with a symmetrical bezel. The tablet has flat sides and is available in multiple colors, such as purple, pink and gray. You can get the tablet for just over 500 euros. Do you want to buy an iPad mini? You will find the best prices in our price comparator!
