With iOS 26, many new features come to your iPhone. But some iOS 26 functions are only available on newer iPhones.

The most striking change in iOS 26 is of course the new look. But you also get a lot of new functions. Only a number of these new functions are only available for newer iPhones.

Some functions also need Apple Intelligence, but this function is not yet available in the Netherlands. Apple did indicate during WWDC 2025 that support for Dutch is coming.

1. Visual Intelligence at screenshots

• Required: iPhone 15 Pro or newer;
• What it does: Analyzes your screenshots and recognizes objects or texts that are on it.

2. Live translation in messages, Facetime and the telephone app

• Required: iPhone 15 Pro or newer;
• What it does: Makes real -time translations at chat messages, Facetime and even during telephone calls.

3. 3D effect on the lock screen

• Required: iPhone 12 or newer;
• What it does: Brings your photo to life on the lock screen with a 3D effect that moves with your device.

4. Smart Siri promotions via shortcuts

• Required: iPhone 15 Pro or newer;
• What it does: Adds AI functions to assignments on iPhones with iOS 26. You can then generate images or summarize texts.

5. Smart suggestions in memories

• Required: iPhone 15 Pro or newer;
• What it does: Memories detect tasks in your messages or e -mails and suggests them in the app.

6. Automatic orders follow in Wallet (with AI)

• Required: iPhone 15 Pro or newer;
• What it does: Wallet automatically recognizes orders in your e -mails and shows them in the app, even if the store has no support for Wallet.

7. Genmoji and Image Playground -Updates

• Required: iPhone 15 Pro or newer;
• What it does: Combine emojis, adjust them (hairstyle, clothing) and generate images in different styles, such as anime, watercolor, and more.

8. Backgrounds & surveys in Messages

• Required: iPhone 15 Pro or newer;
• What it does: With Image Playground you can make backgrounds and AI gives suggestions for surveys.

These iPhones can install iOS 26

Most iPhones that support iOS 18 also receive the update to iOS 26 (and the functions). But there are a few exceptions. Three to be precise:

• iPhone XS;
• iPhone XS Max;
• iPhone Xr.

That means that all iPhones can update to iOS 26 from the iPhone 11 in September.
