Unfortunately: these iPhones, Macs and iPads don’t get the next Apple update

Apple will show the new version of iOS next week. But unfortunately these iPhones, iPads and Macs don’t get the new Apple update.

These iPhones, iPads and Macs don’t get the Apple update

The WWDC of 2025 will start on 9 June. And as usual, Apple shows the new versions of the operating system for all their devices. Last year no iPhones fell off, because all smartphones with iOS 17 could switch to iOS 18.

Unfortunately: these iPhones, Macs and iPads don’t get the next Apple update

This year Apple not only adjusts the numbering (instead of iOS 19 we probably get iOS 26), but also a number of devices fall off. We put the iPhones, iPads and Macs under each other that do not receive the update from Apple.

The following iPhones do not get the update to iOS 26:

  • iPhone XS;
  • iPhone XS Max;
  • iPhone Xr.

The following iPads will not receive the update to iPados 26:

  • iPad 2019 (7th generation).

The following Macs will not receive an update to MacOS 26:

  • MacBook Air 2020 (with Intel chip);
  • MacBook Pro 2018;
  • Mac Mini 2018;
  • iMac Pro 2017.

You still have to take this list with a pinch of salt. It may still happen that devices are added to the list (or be deleted). Next week we will know exactly which iPhones, Macs and iPads will receive the Apple update.

iOS 26

No iOS 19, but iOS 26

Apple will make a rather striking decision this year. The new versions of iOS, iPados and macOS will be announced on 9 June, but after iOS 18 you would expect that it is the turn of iOS 19. But from this year Apple will switch completely to a numbering based on the year in which the software will be used the most.

This adjustment is perhaps a bit strange, but it mainly brings clarity. Until now, every system had its own version numbers, which made it difficult to see which versions came out at the same time or heard together. By equalizing everything (with names such as iOS 26, MacOS 26 and Watchos 26) it becomes a lot clearer.
