Are you still waiting for CarPlay Ultra? Then we have bad news, because again a car brand has taken away from CarPlay Ultra. Apple released the new generation of the operating system a few months ago. It is a major update, where CarPlay takes over all screens in the car for the first time. With CarPlay Ultra you can also operate the temperature control and radio, with the first generation of CarPlay that was not yet possible.
CarPlay Ultra is now available in the first cars of Aston Martin in the United States. Apple has already indicated that the update will come to many more cars later this year, but that is not going according to plan at all. Instead, more and more car manufacturers indicate that they cannot support CarPlay Ultra. That has now done another car brand, because BMW will definitely not get CarPlay Ultra.
Focus on own systems
BMW has announced in a statement that the car brand does not switch to CarPlay Ultra. The German car manufacturer is fully committed to its own operating system. Earlier this year, BMW announced that Idrive will receive a major update. That is the company’s own software, which becomes much more advanced in the latest cars. With these cars, BMW prefers its own IDRIVE over CarPlay Ultra.
The latest cars from the German car brand do not get CarPlay Ultra, but still have support for the first generation of CarPlay. Unfortunately, the Apple control system is less well integrated, so that the following BMW cars must miss a number of functions. For example, certain applications no longer work properly, so you no longer see which number is playing in the car. You have to use Idrive for these features in the future.
CarPlay Ultra Little Popular
With CarPlay Ultra, major changes come to your car, but the car brand must support the update for that. The list of manufacturers who don’t do that is getting longer and longer. In addition to BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volvo, Polestar and Renault have already announced not to make a switch to CarPlay Ultra. Do you have a car from one of these brands? That does not mean that you can no longer use CarPlay at all. Almost every car brand that does not support CarPlay Ultra does work with the first generation of the operating system.
