Opportunity?

There are rare Alfa Romeos and unique Alfa Romeos. This special white coupe that will soon go under the hammer clearly falls into the latter category. Have you ever seen this Alfa Romeo Castagna Vittoria before, and do you know what lies beneath its special carriage?
Less than 830 units of the illustrious 8C Competizione and 8C Spider were built together and the 33 Stradale presented this year is even rarer with a production run of 33 units. However, none of those models is as scarce as this Alfa Romeo Castagna Vittoria, which will soon go under the hammer at Car & Classic. There is only one of them. But, what is it?
The Alfa Romeo Castagna Vittoria is a one-off built by coachbuilder Carrozzeria Castagna. Carorrozzeria Castagna was founded in the nineteenth century, but went bankrupt in 1954. It was revived in the mid-1990s. In 1995, the curtain was pulled off this Alfa Romeo Castagna Vittoria during the Geneva Motor Show. As is not very unusual with so-called one-offs, this Castagna Vittoria is also visually a special case. The car shares its technical basis with the Alfa Romeo 75, but no longer resembles it at all. The coupe even has a hint of Opel. Just look at the headlights, they come from an Opel Calibra. The Castagna Vittoria has a noticeably long front overhang with a hood dripping over the snout. The small side window undoubtedly provides poor all-round visibility. Practical? Probably not. Special? Yes. All body parts of the Alfa Romeo Castagna Vittoria are hand-made from aluminium.

The unique creation is propelled by the famous Busso-V6, a three-liter that produces 255 hp and delivers that power to the road via a five-speed manual gearbox. The Castagna Vittoria has Koni dampers all around, a set of firmer springs and special Brembo braking.
The Alfa Romeo Castagna Vittoria will go under the hammer next week and is expected to raise between €145,000 and €155,000. Does it buy you something nice? We leave that up to the viewer.
