With the WiFi hotspot function of the Samsung Galaxy series, you can create your own network. Handy if you want to access the web with your laptop or tablet, but there is no WiFi connection available.
Personal WiFi hotspot
Samsung Galaxy S phones instantly turn into a personal WiFi network with 3G or 4G speed. That means you can surf the web on other devices using the phone’s mobile internet connection. Keep a close eye on consumption; most mobile plans have a limited data bundle.

Set up WiFi spot
Set up a Wi-Fi spot (also called tethering) on ​​a Samsung device. These steps were tested on a Samsung phone running Android 11.
- Tap on Institutions.
- Tap on Connections.
- Tap on Mobile hotspot and tethering.
- Tap Configure.
- Tap the network name and delete it. Make up your own name and type it.
- Tap the entered password and create a password that you can remember.
- Tap Save.
- The mobile hotspot is set up. You only need to do this once. Tap the slider behind ‘Off’ to turn the hotspot on.
- If Wi-Fi is still on, you will receive a warning that Wi-Fi must be turned off. Tap Ok.
- The name of the phone’s Wi-Fi network and a password will appear at the bottom. Enter this information on the other device, such as a laptop, if you want to use the phone’s internet connection.
Turn on WiFi on a tablet or laptop
The tablet or laptop can now connect to the new network. The exact steps depend on the computer or tablet type. In general, take the following steps:
- Turn on Wi-Fi on the tablet or computer.
- On the phone, find the network name you entered and click or tap it. The network name is listed with the Internet connections.
- Enter the previously chosen password and connect.
Disconnect
Don’t forget to disconnect on the phone when you’re done:
- Tap on Institutions.
- Tap on Mobile hotspot and tethering.
- Tap on On.
The notification changes to ‘Off’ and the phone is no longer a mobile hotspot.
