Many people only use the Apple TV for starting and stopping series and movies-these iPhone tips will teach you extra options.
Useful tips for your Apple TV
Once they have set the Apple TV with Apple TV+most people no longer look at all the possibilities and settings. In these iPhone tips we teach you a number of tricks that will probably come in handy.
1. Dimming the screen quickly
Do you want to be able to dim the screen quickly and undo it just as quickly without diving into the settings? That is possible with the activation button. You set it as follows:
- Open the settings on your Apple TV;
- Go to ‘accessibility’;
- Scroll down and click on ‘activation button’;
- Check the ‘Red witpunt’ option.

From now on, if you quickly press the ‘Previous’ on your remote control three times in a row, the screen dims. Undo? Press another three times in a row.
You can also select two functions. When you then use the button, you get both options, of which you can easily choose one.
2. Change the keyboard layout
Searching via your remote control on the Apple TV can be difficult because you have to move the cursor so far. It helps if you put the keyboard layout on ‘grid’ instead of ‘linear’. You will be added a lot faster everywhere. You set this up like this:
- Open the settings on your Apple TV;
- Go to ‘General’;
- Go to ‘keyboard layout’;
- Check the ‘Raster’ option.

3. Show a photo on your Apple TV
Most people use the ‘synchronous display’ option in the control panel when they want to show a photo on the Apple TV. Only then show the entire screen of your iPhone and not just that one photo. Fortunately it is also possible in a different way:
- Open the relevant photo on your iPhone;
- Tap ‘share’ and then on ‘AirPlay’;
- Tap your Apple TV at the bottom.

That one photo is now visible on your Apple TV. If you now browse through the photos app, nobody sees that. The same applies to any reports that you receive. Only when you open another photo does it also appear on your Apple TV.
4. Changing screensaver quickly
There are a number of screensavers that you can choose from and you can switch quickly and easily in between. When you see the current screensaver, you only have to press the ‘Up’ button on your remote control. Then scroll through the options horizontally. If you have synchronized your photos, you can choose that. And there is also a Snoopy screensaver.

5. Turn off the Touch function remote control
If you have a recent Apple TV, you can use the upper button on your remote control by clicking, but also by wiping. If you are not that handy in the latter, then that touch function is only annoying. In that case you simply switch it off. That’s how it goes:
- Open the settings on your Apple TV;
- Go to ‘remote controls and devices’;
- Go to ‘Clickpad’;
- Check the ‘Click only’ option.

6. Send the sound to your AirPods
Do you look on your own and don’t want to disturb your partner or roommate? Then you simply send the sound to your AirPods. That works very easily:
- Press the TV button for a long time on your remote control;
- In the menu that appears at the top right, go to ‘Audio’;
- Select your AirPods (first remove them from the charging case).
