The CoronaCheck app gives people access to events. This way we can go to concerts, events and on holiday again in corona time.
CoronaCheck app
A nice evening out for dinner, to the new James Bond or the theater. Life without corona seems long ago. But gradually more is possible. To ensure that all steps towards the old normal go safely, the government launched the CoronaCheck app. This app works as an entrance ticket to restaurants, cinemas and theaters, among other things. Only people who can prove via CoronaCheck that they have recently tested negative for corona, have recovered from it or have been fully vaccinated are allowed in.
Paper CoronaCheck
For people who do not have a smartphone, there is also a paper test certificate. Read more about the paper test certificate in the article ‘Request a paper corona admission ticket’.
Download CoronaCheck
The CoronaCheck app works on Android devices with Android 6 and above. For iPhones, it works on devices with iOS 12 and higher. Download the app in the Google Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS). The device where the app is downloaded must be taken to the event or venue you want to attend.
Making corona proof
With the CoronaCheck app, the user can create a corona certificate. This is a QR code based on a test, recovery or vaccination. The user receives two QR codes: a Dutch QR code and an international QR code. Make a corona proof like this:
- Open the app.
- When using the app for the first time, general information about the app appears. Always tap Next one.
- Finally, the screen ‘This is how the app uses your data’ appears. The app reports that privacy-sensitive data is not stored. Tap on I have read the privacy statement and understand how the app handles my data.
- Tap on Next one.
- Tap on Add proof.
- Read the text and tap Next one.
- Tap the option you want to add: a test certificate, recovery certificate, or vaccination certificate.
- Tap on Login with DigiD.
- Log in via an SMS code or via the DigD app.
- The test, recovery or vaccination data is automatically loaded into the app. Tap on Create QR Code.
The proof appears in the app.
Using corona proof
Are you going somewhere where you have to show the corona certificate?
- Open the app.
- Tap on View QR.
- A QR code becomes visible. Have the code scanned for access.
Also carry a valid ID with you. Without it, you can still be denied access. By the way, anyone traveling abroad needs a different QR code. This is created simultaneously with the Dutch QR code and can be found on the ‘International’ tab. Show this when asked to do so abroad, together with a valid proof of identity.
Privacy and security
Some people are concerned about how the CoronaCheck app handles their data. The national government indicates that data from app users is not stored centrally anywhere. In addition, no one can see that you use the app or which events you have attended. The inspectors only see a green or red screen after scanning the code. They also see the first letter of your first name, the first letter of your last name, your date of birth and month of birth. This is to verify your identity.
