The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus were released in early September and have a range of new features. Both devices have the action button, which Apple introduced last year with the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. An additional button has been added to the iPhone 16 (Plus), because the phones have a camera controller for the first time. We also see this button on the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Apple has also made important changes under the hood, because the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus run on the A18 chip. With this processor, the devices have support for Apple Intelligence. Unfortunately, this technology is not yet available in Europe (for a long time), so the iPhone 16 (Plus) will have to make do without the most important features for the time being. Apple has made several changes to the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. The design has been adjusted, because the phones have a thinner camera island. The lenses are now directly underneath each other, making it possible to take spatial photos and videos with the iPhone 16 (Plus). You can later view these images in depth on VR glasses or the Apple Vision Pro.

The camera itself has also received an update, because for the first time you can take macro photos with the regular iPhone. Previously, this feature was exclusive to the Pro models. The improved ultra-wide-angle camera is especially useful when you take photos up close, as the camera captures much more detail. Photos and videos are taken with the new camera controller, which is touch-sensitive and thus provides access to almost all camera functions.

The differences between the iPhone 16 (Plus) and the iPhone 16 Pro (Max) are very small this year, meaning most users no longer need a Pro model. With the iPhone 16 (Plus) you get the action button, camera controller, A18 chip and support for Apple Intelligence. The device also has 8 GB of RAM as standard, so that you can effortlessly run multiple heavy tasks at the same time.

Even without Apple Intelligence, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are very good phones. It is a shame that the devices have to do without the most important functions, but it also means that the iPhone 16 (Plus) will become even better in the future.
