Volkswagen announces which sporty variant of the Golf we will meet first. A spotlight on the Golf GTD is focused on the exhibition stand in Geneva.
According to Volkswagen, the new Golf GTD is the cleanest turbo diesel the brand has ever used for a Golf. The brand took a close look at fuel consumption and emissions and, in its own words, was able to optimize it positively in all cases, while maintaining its sporty character. Thanks to a new SCR catalytic converter, Volkswagen has ‘considerably reduced’ NOx emissions compared to the outgoing Golf GTD.
We are not talking about power yet, but from previously leaked material we know that the new Golf GTD is in all likelihood good for 200 hp. The teaser shows that the front of the Golf GTD is considerably more robust than the muzzle of the regular Golf. The bottom bumper has a honeycomb grid where five light units are hidden on either side for the fog lamps. A GTD logo is again subtly glued to the nose.
Volkswagen launched a Golf GTD for the first time in 1982. The outgoing GTD is good for a capacity of 184 hp. In addition to the GTD, there are reportedly four sporting versions of the Golf: the GTI, GTI TCR, GTE and R. It is not yet known whether these cars will also be in Geneva at the beginning of March.
