From 204 hp to 286 hp, GTX to 340 hp – refreshed interior
Volkswagen has the electric ID4 and ID5 of the new model year in the development rooms. The improved electric SUVs will include a new drivetrain and an upgraded infotainment system. In the run-up to the model year change, Volkswagen is putting the ID4 and ID5 of the current but expiring model year in the promotional box.
The Volkswagen ID4 of the new model year, just like the version of the current model year, will be available as a Pure with a powerful 170 hp electric heart. The ID5 was never available with that drivetrain. What will change then? Quite something! The current 204 hp Pro engine versions of the Volkswagen ID4 and ID5 will soon be replaced by a 286 hp powerful variant. Is that a surprise? Not really. The Volkswagen ID7 was also presented with a 286 hp electric motor and the Skoda Enyaq iV – the Czech sister model of the ID4 and ID5 – was previously presented with a more powerful electric motor.
The Volkswagen ID4 GTX and ID5 GTX, marketed as sporty top versions, also benefit from the arrival of a stronger drivetrain. Because the 296 hp new Pro versions are very close to the currently 299 hp GTX variants, they will soon have a 340 hp powertrain. Regardless of the engine version chosen, the Volkswagen ID4 and ID5 from model year 2024 can charge faster. The maximum charging capacity increases to 170 kW. Volkswagen also promises an increased range, but it has not yet released any figures on this.

The upgraded ID4 and ID5 also receive a renewed infotainment system that, at 12.9 inches, is a lot larger than the current maximum 10-inch model. The sliders with which you control the volume and climate control are now – it took a while – illuminated. In addition, Volkswagen is introducing a new Harman/Kardon audio system and a steering wheel that is covered with artificial leather and has a new layout. Striking: the selector button for choosing the direction of travel is no longer on the display behind the steering wheel. That control makes way for a more traditional selector lever to the right behind the steering wheel.
The improved Volkswagen ID4 and ID5 can be ordered from the end of October. Prices will be released in the run-up.
Advantage advantage
In any case, the Volkswagen ID4 and ID5 of model year 2023 can no longer be reconfigured. Volkswagen does supply the ‘old’ pair from stock for a while with the addition ‘Advantage’. What is striking: the prices of the ID4 Advantage and ID5 Advantage are identical.
