Volkswagen ready to beat Tesla’s EV production

A top executive at Volkswagen made bold statements during a new German interview. During the conversation Bernd Osterloh, chairman of the works council, focuses his arrows on Tesla.

That Tesla has opened the eyes of many other brands, some top executives of those competing brands have dared to admit over the years. However, according to Volkswagens Bernd Osterloh, the time has now come for the Volkswagen Group to overgrow the American giant. According to the chairman, the German car group is in the position to catch up with Tesla in the field of car production and, yes, software.

“If Tesla can produce 300,000 to 500,000 electric units in three factories, then we are already talking about numbers of between 900,000 and 1,500,000 units. We want to achieve that goal by 2023; perhaps earlier ”, says Osterloh in an interview with Welt am Sonntag according to Automotive News Europe. The new modular MEB platform should ensure this, because according to the CEO, Volkswagen has an enormous advantage in this way.

The German admits that Tesla is currently at the forefront of software, because the Americans can already implement the software in their cars and collect data with it, but “once Volkswagen is at the same point, we will have much more data in a much shorter time. time frame. ” How they ultimately manage to do that in Wolfsburg, however, leaves open to Osterloh.
