Volkswagen resumes production ID. 3

Most of the news today seems to be about restarting factories. After Seat and Jaguar Land Rover, Volkswagen also promises a restart, although in the case of the ID.3 there is more to it than corona-related misery.

The electric ID.3 has been plagued by production and software problems from the start, so it was previously whispered that the planned introduction would be pushed aside in the summer. As a plaster on the wound, the e-Wave would be produced longer.

These rumors have already been loudly debunked by Volkswagen, but today those words are turned into action. According to the Germans, ID.3 production in Zwickau has started again. Initially, this is a cautious start-up, with a reduced capacity and a lower production speed. Board member Thomas Ulbrich involved the coronavirus in this: “After all, we have the task of protecting the health of our employees as much as possible, while at the same time getting production back on track.”

The facility in Zwickau is also the first German Volkswagen factory to restart after the major corona closure. Initially, 50 ID.3s will roll off the production line in Zwickau, about a third of what rolled out of the factory for corona woes.
