Volkswagen Touareg

The current Volkswagen Touareg has now been running for less than five years and is therefore being facelifted. That didn’t seem very relevant for the Netherlands, but it was recently announced that the facelifted Touareg is coming our way! Volkswagen is now presenting a new image of the SUV.

The current Volkswagen Touareg is quite a rarity here in the Netherlands. The third generation, introduced in 2018, soon called it quits in our country. He had his ‘best’ sales year in his first year with 59 units, so it was an understandable decision to stop here. Anyone who was disappointed that Volkswagen removed its largest SUV from the range can now eagerly await the car we see in these new photos. That is the facelifted version of the current Touareg and it will be available in Dutch showrooms again.

As the spy photos recently showed, Volkswagen is not tackling the Touareg too rigorously. The front and rear lights seem to be drawn in a slightly different way and at the front it is especially noticeable that the grille extends somewhat wider under the headlights. There is also a bar of LED lighting between the headlights over the grille. The interior of the (in this case as R) renewed Touareg we see, among other things, updated infotainment, a new steering wheel with touch-sensitive ‘buttons’ and the ‘new’ more 2D-designed Volkswagen logo.

It becomes more interesting what changes under the skin. The fact that Volkswagen is keen to offer the Touareg in the Netherlands again raises the suspicion that a partly electrified version, which is therefore less affected by the bpm, is arriving. Previously, the Touareg was here only with 3.0 V6 petrol and diesel engines and even with a 4.0 V8 TDI, now a plug-in hybrid Touareg is likely coming this way. Elsewhere, Volkswagen already sells a Touareg eHybrid with V6 TSI and electric motor, with a system power of 381 hp. It can cover about 47 km electrically with its battery pack with 14.3 kWh net capacity. Incidentally, the Volkswagen Touareg R is also a plug-in. That 462 hp strong version may also be coming this way. We will know more next summer when the new Volkswagen Touareg will be presented.
