Watchos 26
This year Watchos 26 is the update for the Apple Watch. With the following software version, major changes are coming to the smartwatch, as Apple introduces a new interface and the Apple Watch is expanded with more functions. The renewed design of Watchos comes to almost all Apple Watches, but that does not apply to the new features of Watchos 26. A number of them only come to the latest models.
With Watchos 26, four new features come to just a limited number of Apple Watches. It is a new wrist gesture, with which you can close notifications by simply turning your wrist. Other new parts are live translating, smart reactions to messages and automatic adjustment of the volume of the Apple Watch. These four functions are part of Watchos 26, but do not come to all versions of the Apple Watch.
Exclusive for these Apple Watches
To use these four features of Watchos 26 you need an Apple Watch from 2023 or later. That means you should have an Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Series 10 or Apple Watch Ultra 2 for all new features from Watchos 26. Do you have an Apple Watch Series 8 or older? Then parts such as the new wrist gesture, live translation, smart reactions and automatic adjustment of the volume of the smartwatch are missing.
Incidentally, there are more features of Watchos 26, which do not work on all Apple Watches. For certain parts you need an iPhone with support for Apple Intelligence. For example, work live and the new workout buddy only in combination with an iPhone 15 Pro or newer. Release of Watchos 26
We don’t have to wait long for Watchos 26, because Apple is already releasing the software version in September. That month the new Apple Watches and iPhones from 2025 appear. After the announcement of those devices, Apple rolls out the new software version of Watchos for all users. Unfortunately, not all Apple Watches get access to the new features of Watchos 26.
