Speed and efficiency
With these iPhone tips you can use WhatsApp a lot faster and more effectively. Check immediately whether you already know them all!
1. Pin or flag conversations
You can pin or mark conversations that you want to find quickly and easily. We explain to you how that works.
- Pin a conversation: this is especially useful if you still have to reply to certain people or groups and you don’t want to forget this. You do this by swiping a chat to the right and then choosing ‘Pin’.
- Mark a conversation: you do this when someone sends you information that you will need later. This is especially useful in a group chat. You can mark the message by tapping and holding on a message and then tapping ‘Mark with star’. The messages you have marked with a star can be found on the ‘Settings’ tab.

2. Delete or edit sent messages
Did you send a message to the wrong person, made a typo, or just regret your message? You then have 15 minutes to edit or delete the message. Please note that this is visible to the recipient, because ‘Message deleted’ or ‘Message edited’ will appear there.
You can delete and edit by simply pressing and holding your message and then choosing ‘Edit’ or ‘Delete’ in the quick menu that appears.

3. Typing via your MacBook
If you plan to type large amounts of text, it is of course much better to do so using the keyboard of your Mac or MacBook. With Web WhatsApp that is no problem. You can set this up as follows:
- On your MacBook, go to web.whatsapp.com;
- Open WhatsApp on your iPhone and go to ‘Settings’;
- Tap ‘Paired Devices’ and then ‘Pair Device’;
- Point your iPhone’s camera at the QR code on your MacBook.

You now use WhatsApp not only on your iPhone, but also on your MacBook. Typing on your MacBook is of course much faster and easier.
Security and privacy
Not everyone needs to know everything about you, so take some time to look at these iPhone tips.
4. Enable two-step verification
For extra security, you can now set up two-step verification in many apps. That is a good idea. Especially because hackers, if successful, will immediately enable the option if you have not already done so. With all its consequences. To enable two-step verification:
- In WhatsApp, go to the ‘Settings’ tab;
- Tap ‘Account’ and then ‘2-Step Verification’;
- Tap Turn On and enter a PIN.
It is of course important that you do not forget the PIN code. It helps that WhatsApp now and then asks for the PIN code, so you don’t forget it so quickly.

5. Use Face ID to unlock WhatsApp
To ensure your privacy, it is a good idea to lock WhatsApp, so that not everyone can view your conversations if you are not paying attention. To make it easy for yourself, use Face ID for this. You enable it as follows:
- In WhatsApp, go to the ‘Settings’ tab;
- Tap ‘Privacy’ and scroll down;
- Tap App Lock, then turn on Require Face ID.
You can also choose ‘Immediately’, ‘After 1 minute’, ‘After 15 minutes’ and ‘After 1 hour’. The safest option is of course to choose ‘Immediately’.

6. Set who can see your profile photo
You have different options when it comes to your privacy for both your profile photo and your personal information. You can set it to allow everyone to see it, only your contacts, only your contacts except certain people, or no one. This is how you set it:
- In WhatsApp, go to the ‘Settings’ tab;
- Tap ‘Privacy’ and then ‘Profile photo’;
- Choose the desired setting.
Do the same under ‘About’ (under ‘Profile photo’). You can also determine here who can or cannot see your online status.

Photos and videos
Everyone knows how to send photos and videos via WhatsApp, but these iPhone tips will help you do it better, faster and easier.
7. Send photos in HD
Photos you send in WhatsApp are sent in standard quality. Although that is sufficient in many cases, sometimes you also want to send photos in HD quality. You do this in the following way:
- Open the desired WhatsApp conversation;
- Tap the plus sign at the bottom left and choose ‘Camera’;
- Select a photo;
- Tap the HD icon at the top of the screen;
- Tap ‘HD Quality’ at the bottom.

8. Find media easily
If a photo or video has ever been shared in a particular chat, you don’t have to scroll all the way back to find it again. That can be a lot easier. In the relevant chat, tap the name of your contact at the top of the screen. Then tap ‘Media, links and docs’.
Make sure ‘Media’ is selected above and you will see all photos, videos and audio recordings in chronological order. That makes searching a lot easier!

9. Send a video message
You can record and send a video message in WhatsApp without opening the camera app. Sending such a direct video message is just as easy as sending a voice message. Just press and hold the camera icon and don’t release it until you’re done filming. The video is recorded and sent as a round.

Backups
Don’t want to lose your chats when you switch to a new iPhone, for example? Then backups are necessary.
10. Make a backup
We conclude these iPhone tips by setting up a backup of your WhatsApp chats. This goes as follows:
- In WhatsApp, go to the ‘Settings’ tab;
- Tap ‘Chats’ and then ‘Backup chats’;
- Tap ‘Back up now’.
It is advisable to set up automatic backups by clicking ‘Auto. backup’ and select the desired frequency. Your chats are backed up to your iCloud account. You can also choose whether or not you want to add videos to your backups.
