Why this twenty-four-year-old Nissan should cost almost 2 million euros

Almost 2 million euros. You normally pay that for a rare Porsche or Ferrari, but not for a Nissan? Well, if it concerns a rare Nismo 400R: number forty of forty copies produced. This is the ultimate Nissan Skyline GT-R R33!

Why this twenty-four-year-old Nissan should cost almost 2 million euros

A Nissan Skyline GT-R R33 is officially good for ‘only’ 280 hp. The Japanese car manufacturers had agreed that power to prevent a horsepower race. The Nismo 400R was built by Nissan Motorsport in the late 1990s as a tribute to the Le Mans racing cars of the time. It has the same inline twin-turbo six as the R33, but increased from 2.6 liters to 2.8 liters and with a higher rev limit of 9000 rpm. The result is an output of 400 hp and almost 470 Nm of torque.

Nismo 400R is the ultimate Nissan Skyline GT-R R33

Nissan Motorsport has not only tinkered with the engine. The 400R features a modified exhaust system, a new clutch, a 50 percent lighter carbon fiber driveshaft, stiffer suspension with Bilstein dampers, bigger Brembo brakes, wider track and more. Also, the Nismo’s 4WD system sends more power to the rear wheels to counteract the Skyline GT-R R33’s tendency to understeer. The 400R can be recognized by an even wilder body kit, with all kinds of aerodynamic refinements.

Number forty of forty copies built

Only 40 copies of the Nismo 400R were made, of which there are said to be about 20 left. The car now for sale at HJA Group in the UK is number 40. It has only run 61,000 kilometers and comes with all booklets and documentation. The asking price is extreme: almost 2 million euros. An ‘ordinary’ Nissan Skyline GT-R in original condition (just find one) will cost you between 140,000 and 300,000 euros, depending on the generation (R32, R33 or R34) and the version.
