Grasshopper proves that learning to code does not have to be boring and complicated. We’ll discuss why this new app from Google is absolutely worth it based on four reasons.
Grasshopper: learn to code for free and in a fun way
Grasshopper teaches you to code. While this may sound difficult, it is actually a lot of fun and simple. Grasshopper works just as pleasant and pleasant as Duolingo. You learn JavaScript through short puzzles and games. With this programming language you can, among other things, (partially) build websites and apps. We are fans and recommend that you give the app a chance.
1. Coding: anyone can do it
Anyone can code, Grasshopper proves. As soon as you start the app you will see a short explanation, after which you can get started right away. The first exercises are very practical in nature. For example, you have to copy the flag of Gabon, so that you get to know a basic principle of JavaScript: functions.
After this, your knowledge will be put to the test by means of a quiz. The quizzes and games naturally get more and more difficult over time, and all parts of the language are reviewed. Once you’ve got the hang of it and have mastered the fundamentals – such as ‘strings’ and ‘variables’ – you can continue with two in-depth courses. Gradually you collect trophies and you are immediately rewarded for your work.
There is a good learning curve in Grasshopper, making the app suitable for almost everyone. It is therefore their first experience with coding for a third of app users.
2. It’s free
Second, Grasshopper is completely free. The app comes from Area 120, or the Google experiment in which employees are allowed to spend twenty percent of their working time on developing their own initiatives. Since Google says it attaches great importance to making people smarter, the app is (and will remain) free.
3. Daily reminders
Practice makes perfect. This is no different with coding. To become really good, you will have to practice often. Therefore, you have the opportunity to receive reminders on a daily basis. You can also choose to receive a notification once a week, for example. That way Grasshopper gets into your rhythm and you learn more and more.
4. You are not alone
Anyone who has ever coded can have a say about it: every now and then you just can’t figure it out. Precisely for that reason Grasshopper has a website with accompanying forum. Here you can find inspiration, read background information and ask questions. Especially the latter is useful, as there is a lot of experience on the forum coders who are only too happy to share their knowledge with you.
