Replacement for Hongguang Mini EV?
The Chinese car brand Wuling has won gold with the Hongguang Mini EV compact and electric. The electric city rascal, also referred to simply as Mini EV, was the best-selling EV in the world after the Tesla Model Y and Model 3 last year. To keep the model fresh, Wuling is preparing a refresher.
AutoWeek dug into the database of the Chinese Ministry of Transport and Information Technology and turned up a whole bunch of new or updated models. Unfortunately, the relevance of a significant part of it is too small, but we do not want to withhold this remarkable variant of the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV. The Hongguang Mini EV has been sold in China by Wuling – a partnership of SAIC, General Motors and manufacturer Wuling – since 2020 and cannot be dragged into it. The Mini EV was later joined by the smaller Air EV – which also exists as an MG – and the even smaller Nano EV. It seems that Wuling has innovation for the Mini EV in the pipeline.
Whether the Hongguang Mini EV will be completely replaced by the one in these photos, that is still the question. It could also be that it is a special edition or another derivative. Anyway: the Mini EV in these photos has a boarded up front in which you clearly see the part where the headlights are on the already known version. The bumper work is more rounded and Wuling has also filled in the lighting differently at the rear.
The Hongguang Mini EV in the photos is 3.06 meters long, has a wheelbase of 2.01 meters and weighs 777 kilograms. The wheelbase is 7 centimeters larger than that of the original Hongguang Mini EV, which suggests that this is really a successor. Just like the original, the electric block box rolling on 12-inch wheels has a 41 hp electric motor and must therefore be able to reach a speed of 100 km / h.
