Windows Live Mail will no longer be supported by Microsoft as of January 10, 2017. It is therefore not recommended to use the program again. In this article, we’ll discuss the switch to the Mail app in Windows 10.
What is the Mail app?
Windows 10 includes an app that allows you to send and receive mail. With the Mail app, you can manage all your email addresses, whether that’s an address from Gmail, Outlook.com, or your carrier. If you choose the Mail app, you don’t have to do anything. The program is a standard part of Windows 10.
How the Mail app works
On SeniorWeb you will find an article that explains the basics of the Mail app:

Transfer existing emails to the Mail app
Emails from Windows Live Mail can be easily archived and consulted using the Mailstore program. It is also possible, for those who really want to, to then import these emails into the Mail app. You can read how to download and install the program in the Mailstore article.
When the program is ready for use, proceed as follows:

- click on Archive emails.
- Under ‘Email Clients’, click Windows Live Mail.
- In the window that appears, click To end.
- In the next window that appears, click OK.
- Under ‘Profiles’, double click Windows Live Mail to start archiving.
- At the bottom right of the screen you will see a progress window. Depending on the number of messages you have, archiving may take some time. When the process is complete, click in the progress window on Close.
You can now consult all e-mails in the archive via the Mailstore program. But this program can also transfer the messages to the Mail app. This takes a detour. Transfer the mail archive to your Microsoft account. This is done via Outlook.com in the following way:

- click on Next one.
- click on To end.
- click on OK.
- Under ‘Profiles’, double click the given name to start transferring.
- At the bottom right of the screen you will see a progress window. Depending on the number of messages you have, transferring may take some time. When the process is complete, click in the progress window on Close.
All mails are in a separate folder called ‘MailStore Export’.
