If the body lacks magnesium, this can limit the processing of impulses in nerves and muscles. With a magnesium deficiency, twitching muscles often occur in other places in the body. In most cases, magnesium deficiency can be attributed to unbalanced or inadequate nutrition, increased magnesium needs (for example through stress or sports) or to chronic diseases. However, it may also be that the body absorbs too little magnesium or exits too much of it.

If you only suffer occasionally from twitching eyelids, you don’t have to worry. Think about whether you are under stress and deliberately treat yourself to some peace. If you get twitching eyelids again and again in the same situations, it is probably a stress symptom. If you give the eye some time to relax, in most cases it calms down completely.
It can also help with acute batting the eyelid to do eye-yoga exercises. It often helps when you close your eyes and, if necessary, massage your lid gently. Moisturizing eye drops can also remedy the situation in exhausted eyes.
What helps in the long term with the twitching of the eyes?

- If you work a lot on the screen, always take care of your eyes. Always look into the distance in between and reduce your screen time in your free time.
- Make sure that you sleep enough and treat your eyes such a longer resting phase.
- Have your eyes examined regularly. Your presence may have changed and you need glasses or the strength of your glasses no longer fits your eyes. This can also make an effort and lead to twitching.
- Pay attention to a healthy lifestyle, best do without cigarettes and alcohol and don’t drink too much coffee. Caffeine, nicotine and alcohol can affect the nervous system.
