Have you enabled AssistiveTouch? Then you can lock your screen with one tap on the digital button. This digital button does not have a fixed location on your screen, you can move it to a position that is most convenient at that moment. This way you can place the button in a different place for each application, so that it gets in the way as little as possible. Your iPhone is better protected this way, because with one quick tap you can now lock the screen.
