The Peugeot 508 PSE is the most powerful production Peugeot ever, with an output of 360 hp and a top speed of 250 km/h. Compared to the latest ‘lion’, however, the 508 PSE is just a loser. This is the Peugeot 9×8 Hybrid. A bizarrely styled hypercar, built to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Peugeot has won the 24 Hours of Le Mans three times: twice with the 905 Evo 1 Bis (1992 and 1993) and once with the 908 HDi FAP. The manufacturer had a successor for the 905 Evo 1 Bis ready in 1992. This 905 Evo 2 Supercopter was very advanced, did a few test laps on the French circuit of Magny Cours, but ultimately did not come into action.
Peugeot 9×8 will participate in the World Endurance Championship in 2020
Peugeot has announced that it will resume the World Endurance Championship (WEC) from 2022, which includes the 24 Hours of Le Mans. And this is the car with which the French brand hopes to win: the Peugeot 9×8. A hybrid hypercar with a 680 hp strong 2.6-liter twin-turbo V6 and a 270 hp electric motor on board.
With a striking design and no rear wing to the 24 Hours of Le Mans
A striking feature of the 9×8 is its design, which is particularly attractive for a racing car: with the new, classic Peugeot logo on the front and the now characteristic stripe lighting. It is also special that the car does not have a large rear wing. According to Peugeot, this is not necessary, because the aerodynamically optimized body already generates enough downforce.
