The Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12 Pro and Xiaomi 12X have been officially unveiled in China. The Xiaomi 12 and the Pro version are top devices that work with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. The Xiaomi 12 will be for sale converted and with VAT from 620 euros.
Xiaomi 12 (Pro)
in China, Xiaomi has launched the Xiaomi 12 series. The new flagships will probably only come to the Netherlands in the first months of 2022, but we will already discuss the most important features.
Before discussing the differences with the Pro version, let’s take a look at the Xiaomi 12. The housing of the Xiaomi 12 is made of glass and aluminum. Corning Gorilla Glass Victus is provided on both the front and back and it protects the smartphone against drops and scratches. The stereo speakers of this phone were made in collaboration with the audio technology company Harman Kardon.
Smaller screen, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1
The Xiaomi 12 has a 6.28-inch AMOLED screen, compared to the Full HD 6.81-inch panel of the Xiaomi Mi 11. The new screen has a 120Hz refresh rate and supports HDR10+ content. Furthermore, the brightness is lower at 1100 nits, compared to 1500 nits on the Xiaomi Mi 11. The screen does support 12-bit colors for a smoother transition between the different color tones.

The Xiaomi 12 is also available in different storage variants: 8 GB / 128 GB, 8 GB / 256 GB and 12 GB / 256 GB. It is not yet known which of these models will eventually be available with us.
The Xiaomi 12 also has a 4,500 mAh battery and works with a 67W fast charger. The device can also charge wirelessly with 50W. It works on MIUI 13, the new software shell based on Android 12. Xiaomi already announced some MIUI 13 functions this week.

The different color variants of the Xiaomi 12
No wide-angle camera, flash under the screen
Xiaomi’s flagship has three camera lenses on the rear: a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization, a telephoto camera that is good for 3x optical zoom and a telemacro camera. The latter is a camera sensor that zooms in extra on small details. The phone comes without a wide angle lens. On the front is a 32 MP selfie camera in a screen notch in the middle.
Xiaomi 12 Pro
The main difference that the Pro version offers is without a doubt the larger 6.71 inch AMOLED screen. The hole involves an LTPO panel with variable refresh rate from 1 to 120Hz. The panel has a higher QHD resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels. This display is also brighter and goes up to 1500 nits, but it supports 10-bit color. That is, in theory, color transitions should look just a little better on the Xiaomi 12.
As expected, the phone comes with the same chipset and a slightly sturdier 4,600 mAh battery under its larger housing. Fast charging is also smoother with 120W, just like with the Xiaomi 11T Pro. Wireless charging still works at 50W.
There are also striking differences in the camera area. Xiaomi opts for three 50 MP cameras with the Pro version. In addition to the main camera, there is a telephoto camera and a wide-angle sensor. At the time of writing, Xiaomi does not share anything about the optical zoom range.
Xiaomi 12X
We can be very brief about the Xiaomi 12X, because this is the most accessible variant of the trio. It has the same screen, camera and battery as the regular Xiaomi 12, but comes with Qualcomm’s lighter Snapdragon 870 chipset to keep the price down. It is unknown whether this phone will appear with us.
Prices and availability
The Xiaomi 12 will only be released in China for the time being, but we expect to welcome it in the Netherlands and Belgium in the first month of 2022. The device comes in a blue, green, pink and black hue. It remains to be seen which colors will be available with us.
If we convert the price and apply VAT, we discover that the Xiaomi 12 costs at least 620 euros, that is the model with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. You pay 670 euros for the model with 8 GB / 256 GB and 738 euros for the phone with 738 euros. The Xiaomi 12 Pro is for sale from 788 euros. Actual prices on our market may deviate from these calculations.
