Xiaomi comes with a new version of its Mi band 6 that allows contactless payment with the fitness tracker. The Mi Band 6 will also support Alexa, but otherwise there are no differences. It will be for sale for 54.90 euros.
Xiaomi Mi Band 6 NFC
In March, Xiaomi released a new version of its popular sports band, the Mi Band 6. It came with a larger 1.56-inch AMOLED screen, new sports to track and an improvement to existing health features. You can read all about it in this article.
One function was again missing, and that is the possibility to pay contactless with the wearable. This has been possible in China for years with these fitness trackers, and nobody was shocked that it would not work for us this year either. However, Xiaomi is now releasing a new variant called the Mi Band NFC. Thanks to the collaboration with Mastercard, you can pay contactless in Europe with this band, the manufacturer announces in a press release.
How that works in practice, Xiaomi does not yet explain. The brand only says that paying is “fast, safe and convenient”. Xiaomi says it is aware of the importance of contactless payment features in wearables. This Mi Band 6 NFC also offers support for Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant, which was a feature that the regular Mi Band 6 lacked.
Prices and availability
The Xiaomi Mi Band 6 NFC will be on sale for EUR 54.90, and it will be available in different colors. The regular Mi Band 6 costs slightly less, namely 44.99 euros. It is unknown when it will be on the market. Xiaomi also recently introduced the 11T, 11T Pro and 11T Lite. That’s a new lineup of phones for the fall.
