The Dutch car market is now officially a new brand richer. The Chinese Xpeng is spreading its wings to the Netherlands and will launch the P5 this year, an electric sedan with a range of 465 kilometers. The Xpeng P5 can be booked online immediately.

Xpeng is one of many Chinese manufacturers targeting the European car market. The brand has now officially established itself in the Netherlands with its first in the Westfield Mall in Leidschendam Experience Store to open. Initially it seemed that the P7 would be the first car to bring Xpeng to the Netherlands, but that turns out not to be the case. The Xpeng P5 will go down in the books as the first car of the brand that will be sold in the Netherlands.

The Xpeng P5 is a 4.81 meter long electric sedan with a wheelbase of 2.77 meters. Definitely not a little boy. In the luggage compartment you can also lose 520 liters of stuff. In terms of size, the Xpeng P5 falls exactly between the Tesla Model 3 and Model S. The Model 3 is about 12 centimeters shorter, the Model S is 17 centimeters longer. The Xpeng P7 to be brought to the Netherlands later is a bit bigger with 4.88 meters, but Xpeng will release more about that car later. Back to the P5, which is interesting enough already. Between the front and rear axle of the Xpeng P5 is a battery pack with a capacity of 66 kWh. There, the Xpeng P5 squeezes out a range of 465 kilometers determined via the WLTP cycle. Extensive technical specifications will keep Xpeng under wraps for a while.

Multiple versions

If we look at the international specifications of the Xpeng P5, we find both a front-wheel drive version with a single electric motor and a four-wheel drive with – you can feel it coming – two electric motors. That front-wheel drive variant is 210 hp and 310 Nm strong and helps the P5 at a speed of 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds. Xpeng already mentions a variant with an 80 kWh battery that, according to the less accurate NEDC cycle, can travel about 600 kilometers on a single battery charge. In addition, the company speaks of a variant with a range of 550 NEDC kilometers.

As far as equipment is concerned, you don’t seem to get off very well in the Xpeng P5. The electric newcomer has a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation and a 15.6-inch large multimedia screen. You can give commands to the car by chatting to it. In addition, the car will be available with hardware and software that should enable semi-autonomous driving, although it is not yet clear whether these systems are standard. But of the party: a glass panoramic roof. Others features with which the P5 will be available internationally: a refrigerator, V2L technology and even a roof with solar cells.

Prices and availability

The Xpeng P5 can be booked online immediately. Prices and more detailed information for the Dutch market will follow soon. The P7 will eventually strengthen the Xpeng range. You can read more about that electric sedan – which can travel 550 WLTP kilometers with its 80 kWh battery and is 430 hp powerful – here. Don’t be surprised if Xpeng expands its European and Dutch delivery range in addition to the P7 in the long term with the G3 and G9. The G3 is a compact electric crossover, the G9 a much larger electric SUV.
