This year marks exactly 40 years since Yamaha introduced the original Ténéré, inspired by the success and growing interest in the Paris-Dakar rally. Reason for the Japanese to now launch a special edition: the new Ténéré 700 World Rally with iconic 1990s racing colours.
Based on the design used on Stéphane Peterhansel’s factory 1993 bike, the Ténéré 700 World Rally celebrates Yamaha’s winning Dakar history and pays tribute to it, with its striking new blue, pink fluo and silver historic rally racing colours. to all the heroic factory riders who competed in the world’s toughest event.
The same colors will be used by Yamaha riders Alessandro Botturi and Pol Tarrés in their 2023 race program where they will test their factory Ténéré bikes to the limit.
A striking color is not the only thing that distinguishes the Ténéré 700 World Rally, Yamaha’s new flagship in the all-road segment is equipped with high-quality components. Starting with the exclusive slip-on Akrapovič damper, which Yamaha says further accentuates the high torque feel and signature roar of the CP2 engine with 270-degree crankshaft.
Fuel tanks were huge in the Dakar, so the Ténéré 700 World Rally is also equipped with 23-litre fuel tanks developed for competition. Most of the fuel is carried as low as possible to centralize mass for agile handling and the tops of the tanks are lowered than on the standard Ténéré allowing for easy rider movement.
The Ténéré 700 World Rally’s KYB suspension is designed to provide excellent handling characteristics during extended off-road riding. The black colored 43mm inverted fork is fully adjustable and has 230mm of travel to handle the toughest off-road terrain.
The adjustable rear suspension is matched to the front and has an aluminum housing with a piggyback reservoir. With a special linkage and a large shock absorber, the rear wheel of the World Rally also offers 220 mm of travel. The steering damper, which is adjustable in 18 positions, comes from the Öhlins house.
Thanks to the two-piece design, the flat rally seat can be mounted on a rack or luggage by removing the rear section. The flat profile allows the rider to move freely and effortlessly shift their weight forward and backward. For added exclusivity, the seat also features the World Rally logo.
Riders of the Ténéré 700 World Rally have a choice of three switchable screen styles: digital, analogue or road book style. The attached 5-inch TFT color screen can also be paired with a smartphone running the free MyRide app, allowing text messages and incoming calls to be displayed on the screen.
The ABS system is 3-way adjustable. Mode 1 is fully engaged, with ABS on both wheels. Mode 2 has ABS on the front wheel and off on the rear wheel, while Mode 3 has ABS completely off.
