• Sturdier, wider headband: this makes the headphones feel more robust;
• Improved noise canceling: with twelve microphones (instead of eight) and a new chip, the noise suppression is noticeably better;
• Better balanced sound: the XM6 sounds more refined and balanced;
• Bluetooth 5.3: now with support for Bluetooth 5.3, LC3, LE Audio and soon also Auracast;
• Charging and listening at the same time: you can listen to music via Bluetooth while charging via USB-C, something that is not possible with the XM5;
• Better call quality: you can be heard more clearly, especially in noisy environments;
• New listening modes: you can choose from ‘Standard’, ‘Background Music’ and ‘Cinema’;
• More compact carrying case: the case has become smaller and now has a magnetic closure.

The improvements are nice, but not necessarily a dealbreaker. On the other hand, you have to pay a bit more for the Sony WH-1000XM6. Fortunately, this version of the headphones is also available cheaper. Instead of 449 euros you pay 386 euros (for the blue version).
