Techzle 19 will be in the shops from tomorrow or on your doorstep this week. What are you reading in our packed magazine this week?

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 already seems to be a big contender for the title ‘the most interesting newcomer of 2021’. If you belong to the huge group of interested people, the latest edition of Techzle is yours, because we were allowed to hit the road for the first time with the equally stubborn and promising EV. Does that car live up to the high expectations?

While no one seems to want to be honest, an affordable coupé SUV may also be a car the world is waiting for. Renault apparently thinks so, because the brand comes up with the hip Arkana. Even before that car officially arrives in the Netherlands, Roy Kleijwegt can already take it for a ride.

Hardly a week goes by without a double test with plug-in hybrids. This time we are looking a little higher, because Peugeot has a real powerhouse in this area with the 508 PSE. Whether the 508 in this form can suddenly cope with an all-rounder like the BMW 330e, is the big question.

What plug-in hybrids often have to prove is whether they can travel many hundreds of thousands of kilometers. In the case of the Volkswagen Passat CC of Arend-Jan Diephuis, that proof has already been provided, because its beautiful four-door now has almost 650,000 km on the clock. That of course screams for a Klokje Rond inspection. In addition, we hoist a Kia Picanto on the podium, or rather on the rollers. Equipped with the 1.0 T-GDi, this copy is a lot more powerful on paper than a regular Picanto, but of course we would like to see that confirmed.

An occasion double test is also present this week. We put two cars opposite each other that are an excellent alternative to a new car from the absolute underclass: a Seat Ibiza from 2015 and a Mazda 2 from a year later. Do these hatchbacks drive just as fresh as they look for about 11 grand?
