When you buy a new iPhone, you can trade in your old device through the Apple Trade In program for a discount. Unfortunately, Apple now has a lot less for your iPhone.
How much is my iPhone worth?
While everything is getting more expensive and production problems are causing fewer iPhones to roll off the assembly line, you might expect Apple’s phones to become more stable in value. Still, the tech giant has decided to significantly lower the trade-in value of iPhones.
How much your iPhone is worth depends on the model you have, but also the condition of the device. The more traces of use there are, the less the estimated value. Below we have listed the previous and the new prices of the Apple Trade In program.

New Trade In Prices
Especially with the iPhone 12 series from 2020, the trade-in value has plummeted. Last week you received a trade-in discount of 715 euros on a used iPhone 12 Pro Max (in good condition); now it is 600 euros. The iPhone 12 Pro (-€95), iPhone 12 (-€70) and iPhone 12 mini (-€75) are also falling sharply in value in the Apple Trade In program.
Older iPhone models have also become less valuable. This applies to the iPhone 11 series, iPhone XS (Max), iPhone XR, iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone 7 Plus. The iPhone 6s (Plus) is no longer among them; this device does not provide a discount at Apple.
You will only receive the highest amount if your iPhone is as good as new and has no damage, such as scratches. The trade-in value may therefore be lower than the prices mentioned above. The amount that your iPhone is worth, you use for a discount on your next purchase in the Apple Store. You don’t have to use the Apple Store gift card right away; that can also be done at a later time.

Trade in iPhone at Apple
Do you want to surrender to Apple? Then do the following:
- Visit the Trade In page from Apple;
- Scroll down and choose ‘Smartphone’;
- Enter the serial number of your iPhone and click ‘Search’;
- Enter the model number of your iPhone and follow the steps.
You will now receive an estimate of the trade-in value. If you agree, Apple will send you free shipping materials. You use this to send your device to Apple. Your iPhone will be inspected there.
If the condition of the iPhone is indeed as you have indicated, you will receive an Apple Store gift card worth the estimated trade-in value. If not, you will receive a new quote. You can then agree to that quote, or Apple will return your iPhone for free.
