Since iOS 15, your iPhone has been monitoring something new: your walking stability. The device warns you if the risk of falling is high in the coming year.
iPhone can predict if you’re going to fall
If you have an iPhone with iOS 15 and you keep it in your pocket, your balance, strength and gait are automatically assessed. Your iPhone calculates this based on data about, among other things, the speed of walking, stride length and support phase.
With this data, your iPhone makes an estimate of your stability. The lower the walking stability, the more likely you are to fall. You can choose to receive a notification about this. Your iPhone will then let you know that there is an increased risk of falling in the next 12 months.
Check your walking stability
Your walking stability is automatically tracked after installing iOS 15. To view this data, do the following:
- Open your iPhone’s Health app;
- Tap the ‘Data’ tab;
- Choose ‘Mobility’;
- Scroll down and tap “Walking Stability.”
The graph shows whether your walking stability is ‘OK’, ‘Low’ or ‘Very low’. With ‘Low’ your walking stability has decreased and there is a higher risk of falling in the coming year. At ‘Very Low’, your iPhone will rate your gait as very unstable and you have a high risk of falling in the near future.

With exercises that improve your strength and balance, you reduce your risk of falling. On the Mobility page of the Health app you will find tips and exercises to strengthen the muscles and improve balance, thereby reducing the chance of a slip.
Stability Alerts
Your iPhone can warn you if you are likely to fall sometime in the next year. By default, your iPhone doesn’t do this, so you still have to set it up yourself:
- Open your iPhone’s Health app;
- Tap the ‘Data’ tab;
- Choose ‘Mobility’;
- Tap ‘Configure’ and go through the steps.
