New Features: Only for YouTube Premium
YouTube is getting a few new features. Unfortunately, only YouTube Premium subscribers are going to benefit from this. The main new feature is the improvement of the playback quality of the videos.
YouTube Premium subscribers will have the option to watch videos in a higher bitrate (but still in 1080p). Videos were already available in 1080p, but with this higher bitrate you get to see more details. This higher bit rate is also a welcome addition to fast movements in videos.
SharePlay for YouTube in FaceTime
In addition, the SharePlay feature will be available for YouTube videos. It allows you to watch a video on YouTube with your friends or family during a FaceTime call.
Minor new features for YouTube Premium
Starting today, YouTube Premium subscribers can also continue watching a video you started on another device more easily. Queuing and managing a video just got easier. And with Smart Downloads, recommended videos are automatically downloaded when you’re connected to Wi-Fi. You can also watch these videos offline afterwards.
YouTube Premium in a nutshell
You can watch unlimited videos on YouTube, but if you do not have a paid account, you will often (very often) see commercial breaks. With a paid YouTube Premium account, the ads disappear (and you get the new features), but you pay 6.99 per month for the subscription.
In addition to this subscription, you also have a version with YouTube Music for EUR 11.99 per month. There is also a family subscription for 17.99 euros. You and five family members can then watch YouTube without advertising.
