YouTube Shorts has over 5 trillion views in two years

The creators of YouTube Shorts managed to rack up over five trillion views in less than two years. Google wants this number to grow even further and is therefore coming up with new innovations and ideas.

Creative and easy videos

About a year and a half ago, Google came up with a TikTok counterpart. Google called it ‘YouTube Shorts’ and wanted to reach a new and especially younger audience with it, just like TikTok. The idea of Shorts is to create creative videos of up to 60 seconds, which are easy for the creators to produce and edit. For example, you record one video or several video clips and through YouTube itself, or through other video editing apps, you can easily edit your video. The Short video can then be viewed under ‘Shorts’ at the bottom of the YouTube app, via the YouTube homepage or on the subscription feed.

New innovations

In a blog post YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki indicates that the platform will focus even more on YouTube Shorts this year. In addition, new features should be made available to the creators of Shorts videos and it should be easier for viewers to find Shorts. One of these new functions will be ‘Remix’. An already existing feature that allows you to create Shorts with audio from other YouTube videos. This year, even more functions should be added, which should ensure that the content on YouTube can be remixed in multiple creative ways.
