YouTube wants to make blocking advertising completely impossible

Many users have installed an ad blocker in the browser to avoid advertisements on YouTube. But Google is now really going to put a stop to that.

YouTube wants to make blocking advertising impossible

It has been becoming increasingly difficult to successfully avoid online advertising for a long time. For example, Meta recently added advertisements on Instagram that you can no longer ignore. Advertising has existed on YouTube for some time, but about 1 in 3 people there have installed an ad blocker in their browser. Until now, you could avoid advertising between videos quite well.

Google is obviously not happy with that and would much rather see users pay PremiumSubscribe to YouTube to get rid of advertising. That is why Google is now experimenting with a new system in which advertising is ‘injected’ into the video you watch at the source.

The consequence of this approach is that the ad blocker can no longer distinguish between the actual video and the advertisement. The adblocker then lets them both through, or blocks them both. Google has to the website Gizmodo confirmed that such adjustments are currently being implemented.

Google also emphasizes that the use of an ad blocker is a violation of YouTube’s usage rules and that part of the proceeds from the advertising shown goes to the creators. There have been websites for years that detect the use of an ad blocker and do not show any content until the ad blocker is disabled. In that sense, it is a logical step that YouTube will do something similar.
