The Chinese Zeekr presents itself more ambitious than ever by unleashing a ‘performance battle’ with Tesla with a short tweet. The sporty top version of the Zeekr 001, the Zeekr 001 FR, goes after Tesla’s insanely fast Plaid versions.
Zeekr, a Chinese sister brand of Volvo, Polestar and Lynk & Co, looks set to become a brand to be reckoned with. Here in Europe it lands with the promising Zeekr X on paper, a cousin of cars such as the Volvo EX30 and Smart #1, but also with the larger Zeekr 001. The 001 enters the waters of cars such as the BMW i4, Volkswagen ID7 and the Polestar 4, which also comes from Geely. Earlier we took a closer look at how the Zeekr 001 compares to its competitors on paper. Before he can prove himself in practice, Zeekr already raises the stakes with the 001.
According to the Chinese, even the Plaid versions of Tesla will die when it comes up with the Zeekr 001 FR. In a short tweet, Zeekr states: ‘Plaid is boring. The Zeekr 001 FR is a new kind of monster.’ There is not a word of Chinese in it. To really put the fastest Teslas to the test, the Zeekr 001 FR will have to come from a good family. The Tesla Model S Plaid produces more than 1,000 horsepower, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 322 km/h. The strongest Zeekr 001 is 544 hp strong and needs 3.8 seconds for that sprint. The Zeekr 001 FR must therefore be a very significant upgrade. Soon we will hear more, Zeekr promises.
