Zeekr X unveiled: Volvo EX30’s Chinese cousin

On the same basis as Smart #1 and Volvo EX30

Zeekr X unveiled: Volvo EX30’s Chinese cousin

After an extremely short teaser campaign, Zeekr has pulled the curtain on the Zeekr X. The electric crossover, previously referred to as Zeekr 003, is based on a well-known basis and will almost certainly also come onto the market here.

The Chinese Zeekr doesn’t let any grass grow over it. At the beginning of this week we got to see the Zeekr 003 in a psychedelic paint, followed by some teaser pictures on Thursday and now the car can be seen in its entirety. The big difference is that he is now suddenly called Zeekr X. Strangely enough, Zeekr deviates from the already known naming convention with two zeros and a number. 003 fit perfectly in between, but apparently it takes a different path with the X.

Known numbers

Fair is fair: there is no full disclosure yet, so in a sense the teasing is not quite over yet. We only get to see the X from the outside and Zeekr is still withholding detailed information. In any case, it can be seen that the Zeekr X is a pretty idiosyncratic EV, with a style, especially at the front, that is somewhat reminiscent of other Zeekrs and models from sister brand Lynk & Co. It looks modern and creative, with stylish doors and the lack of door handles as special details. The question is whether the latter will continue to be the case.

As mentioned, Zeekr is keeping secret for the time being what the X has to offer, but some things are already known. For example, it probably sprints in its most powerful form in ‘less than 4 seconds’ from 0 to 100 km / h and is on Geely’s SEA platform. Those two things were already reason to suspect that the Zeekr shares a lot with the Smart #1, which is also based on that basis and achieves the same performance as Brabus. The Zeekr is clearly larger. According to various media, the X is 4.45 m long, almost 1.84 m wide and over 1.57 m high. In that case, it is 7 cm lower and 18 cm longer than the Smart #1, but would have an equal wheelbase at 2.75 m. The latter seems to indicate that the Zeekr X is on exactly the same trim of the SEA platform family as the Smart #1.

In that case, it is likely that the Zeekr X will indeed get a top version that, just like the Smart #1 Brabus, has two electric motors that deliver 428 hp together. Undoubtedly there are milder variants in the barrel. The Smart #1 is also available with 272 hp and rear-wheel drive. It comes as a Premium with its 66-kWh battery for 440 km according to the WLTP measurement. Carefully count on a comparable range for the Zeekr X. The Zeekr X, designed in Sweden, will eventually get another Geely family member from that country: the Volvo EX30, which is also based on the same SEA base and will almost certainly have more or less identical hardware. has on board. It will be busy with high-legged compact models from Geely here in Europe, because you can count on the Zeekr X coming to our market. Probably this year, but not before Zeekr shows more of the X and releases more technical information. Please wait.
