Zero-Click Spyware on WhatsApp
A zero-click attack means that victims are at risk without having to tap a link or have to take action. Only receiving the message is enough to be vulnerable …
According to a report from The Guardian Whatsapp said that some users may be victims of Zero-Click Spyware. Meta’s Message app claims that nearly 100 journalists and activists were the target of a targeted attack. In addition, WhatsApp says it is pretty sure that the Zero-Click Spyware came from Paragon Solutions. That is a company that was founded in Israel and was recently taken over by an American investment company.

Not the first time
The Zero-Click attack is comparable to another large-scale WhatsApp-Hack at the end of last year. Then Spyware infected with the name Pegasus More than 1400 devices. Once a device is infected by Zero-Click Spyware, the attacker has full access. For example, he can read messages that have been sent via encrypted apps such as WhatsApp and Signal.
WhatsApp says that it has informed the approximately 100 users about the possible attack with Zero-Click Spyware. It just did not announce where they are located and who they are. The company did say that it disrupted the alleged attacks in December. How long the targets have been threatened then remains unclear.
A spokesperson for WhatsApp indicates that this is the newest example why Spyware companies should be held responsible for their illegal actions. He also says that WhatsApp will continue to protect the ability of people to communicate privately. WhatsApp asked Paragon Solutions in a letter to stop the actions and also says it investigates legal options. Paragon Solutions has not yet responded to the allegations of WhatsApp.
