ZF has modular platform for electric cars

The German technology company ZF, best known for its transmissions, is introducing a fully modular electric platform that it offers to car manufacturers.

At the IAA in Munich, ZF will present its Modular eDrive Kit, a modular platform that, according to the company, brings together all the technical knowledge and expertise it has in the field of electric driving. That sounds like nice marketing talk and in fact it is, but ZF is indeed a company that has something to offer. The Modular eDrive Kit is a modular electric car platform that makes it available to car manufacturers.

ZF keeps extensive technical information under wraps, although it does report that the platform is suitable for about 100 hp to 545 hp electric powertrains with 350 Nm to 540 Nm of torque. ZF has in fact developed not only a scalable platform, but also electric motors and cooling systems that reduce internal power loss, including through friction, with “[…] up to 70 percent.” According to ZF, with the Modular eDrive Kit “[…] the platform of the future”. Now we have to wait and see whether car manufacturers will take action.
