Lambo’s second EV
A lot is also happening at Lamborghini. Lamborghini recently released the first information about the fierce plug-in hybrid successor to the Aventador and it is now known that the Urus will become a fully electric model in 2029.
Supercars cannot escape partial or even full electrification either. The successor to the Lamborghini Aventador ‘just’ gets a powerful 6.5 V12 again, but that twelve-cylinder is supported by three electric motors that bring the system power to no less than 1,015 hp. The Huracán will soon be followed by a plug-in hybrid powerhouse. It is planned for the end of 2024. But with the next generation Urus, Lamborghini is going a lot further in the electrical field.
In conversation with Road & Track, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann has said that an electric model will succeed the Urus in 2029. That the second generation Urus will be an EV is actually no surprise. After all, the Urus shares its technical basis with, among others, the Porsche Cayenne and today it was announced that the next generation Cayenne will be an EV.
The next generation Lamborghini Urus will not be the first all-electric car from Sant’Agata Bolognese. A year before the electric Urus arrives, in 2028, Lamborghini is already introducing an electric 2+2, a relatively high-standing two-door with a small rear seat. The current generation will be introduced to a plug-in hybrid powertrain before its farewell in 2029.
